About Us


Polishhistory.pl is an online project of the Polish History Museum in Warsaw. Portal serves as a research tool and a modern kind of compendium of historical knowledge. It is addressed primarily to scientists conducting research on the history of Polish but its offer may also interests undergraduate and graduate students of history and the humanities, and all lovers of history. The aim of the portal is to provide a platform for information necessary for Polish and foreign researchers of Polish history.

Very important roles of the website play various databases. Some of them collects information on historical studies in Poland and institutions (such us museums, libraries, archives), the others gather constantly updated informations on audivisual and digitalized collection of historical sources.

The purpose of the site is also held information on events, conferences and meetings related to Polish history and present review of new, interesting publications on the history of the Polish state and society.

The initiative to create the portal polishhistory.pl appeared in 2006 and came from representatives of the Krakow branch of the Polish Historical Society, Prof. Krzysztof Zamorski and Prof. Andrzej Chwalba. Work on the portal was launched in April 2007. The inauguration of the first version of the portal took place on the I Congress for Foreign Scholars of Polish History (28-30.06.2007 r).The portal does not describe history of Poland but:

  • helps to learn it
  • helps to investigate it
  • integrates the research community of Polish history
